New Lost Wax Casting and Glassblowing Creation

  Wish the Riches of Heart

The blooming flowers are transformed into goldfish to celebrate the affluence while the goldfish converts into the beautiful flowers to wish for prosperity. Flourishing flowers and leaping fish represent the joy of vitality in life. Attracting fortune, fulfillment, and peace, the treasure bowl and the vase of riches, are brimming with blessing.

In golden ages, while the life is abundant, the art styles tend to be lavish. With the fulfillment in life and the completion of soul, people are more inclined to extend their fortune to others and share their prosperity.

Such generosity is what we, in modern times, extremely admire. Reinterpreting Chinese traditional symbols and extending the concept of treasure bowls, Dancing Blooms, Flying Fish, Spring Lights Converge series is our hopes to celebrate the well-being and invite mental satisfaction.

Hence, each treasure bowl elaborately built is our blessing to you.

This series is derived from the renowned artwork – Candy box with Goldfish, collected by the Palace Museum in Beijing in 1993. After 17 years, with three-year effort, Loretta Hui-shan Yang succeeded in combining the pâte-de-verre with blowing glass techniques, and presents Dancing Blooms, Flying Fish, Spring Lights Converge series.

The pâte-de-verre top cap of the treasure bowl is constructed with details of goldfish and layers of petals. The illusory and real-like postures of petals pose the greatest challenge for pâte-de-verre molding. The layers of petals are so complicated and large, and the thickness of silicone molds is critical in the process of molding. Extra supportive molds are needed to avoid damage of petals; therefore, the total number of molds can reach to ten layers. While removing the molds, extra attention is needed because the petals can easily be damaged. The multiple nozzles for injecting wax make the refining process an extremely time-consuming task.

The blowing glass vase is hand-made by the artist in the workshop hot as hell. The artist has to bear the weights of 30 kg of boiling glass liquid attached on a long stainless tube. She has to carefully control the angle of the tube. Any miscalculation can affect the look of the details. With the heat and the weight, it is the ultimate physical and mental challenge for the artist. The process is so similar to practising Buddhism.

The gold foils on the vase are placed by hands. Each foil is attached to the red hot vase like butterfly of fire dancing in the artist’s hand as the protection sheet flies away in the sky. After glass-blowing, the gold foils are extended like strokes of golden color on the vase.

The lights and heats are combined without stop. So powerful and so grand, just like life itself.

Dancing Blooms, Flying Fish, Spring Lights Converge series celebrates the abundance and beauty of life. With this series, we wish people a life of converging fortune and the spring of wealth.
